Daily Operations:

The active working face is currently located in cells 13 and 15. The working face is processing both rail and street volume and is utilizing clean soil, approved alternative daily cover and the Envirocover machine. The perimeter water/vapor-based neutralizer systems, and truck wash are also in operation. The water-based system will be decommissioned for the winter season.

NYSDEC Odor Hotline and Verification System: (585) 453-2416

Temporary odors may occur during trenching and construction activities necessary for project completion and future improvements.

Renewable Energy Powerplant and Landfill Gas Management:

State-of-the-Art Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) Facility in the Town of Macedon, on High Acres Landfill Property. This project beneficially utilizes landfill gas that is generated when organic material decomposes in a landfill. This RNG Facility has replaced High Acres' landfill gas-to-electric plant with landfill gas-to-pipeline (RNG). The RNG plant will reduce the current combustion of landfill gas on-site by converting LFG to RNG, which is pipeline-quality gas, thus reducing emissions. Existing on-site flares will remain operational to handle excess gas generation and for backup and redundant control combustion capacity. According to the USEPA, the current “Use of RNG can provide benefits in terms of fuel security, economic revenues or savings, local air quality, and greenhouse gas emission reductions.” The facility will process up to 8,000 scfm of landfill gas, which is equivalent to 2 million MMBtu of RNG delivered to the pipeline. (Serves the needs of approx. 30,000 households) The facility will provide a local greenhouse gas reduction equivalent to removing 21,000 cars from the road per year. (100,000 MT CO2e/year avoided emissions).

Continuous use of gas collection wells and flares for odor control. Ongoing work includes raising gas collection wells, installing additional horizontal gas collectors, installing gas vacuum lines, and upgrading the gas collection wells for drainage and collection enhancement. Well-raising is a daily activity in coordination with filling operations.
