Operations Update
Week of 4/11/2022
Daily Operations:
The active working face is currently located in cells 11,12 and 13. The working face is processing both rail and street volume and is utilizing clean soil, approved alternative daily cover, and the Envirocover machine. The perimeter water/vapor-based neutralizer systems, odor boss, and truck wash are also in operation. Litter picking is an ongoing process and continues to be collected around the facility.
Construction Activities:
Cell 13-B-2 construction is set, and contracts have been awarded for 2022. Construction materials are ordered, and some liner material deliveries have been received. Initial earthworks/liner construction to commence in early June.
Cell 15A Mass Excavation started in January and planned to finish in December of 2022.
Temporary exposed geomembrane cover on the east side of Cell 12A to commence in late May/early June.
Rail pad resurfacing and access road improvements are scheduled for Q2 and Q3.
Renewable Energy Powerplant and Landfill Gas Management:
Continuous use of gas collection wells and flares for odor control. Quarterly SEM scanning continues. Ongoing work includes raising gas collection wells, installation of additional horizontal gas collectors, and the installation of gas vacuum lines. Scheduled maintenance on Renewable Energy Powerplant engines completed on 4/13 and 4/14.
Organics Composting:
The organics composting operation (food waste collected from three local universities, St. John Fisher, Nazareth, and the University of Rochester) continues to be managed in the approved organics compost area. Weekly delivery of food waste continues.
Leaf Composting and Brush/Wood chipping:
The leaf compost continues to be turned and managed on a monthly basis. Wood grinding continues. Brush and wood waste will be ground into wood chips for use by the town and the site.
Current Events:
In honor of Earth Day, this coming Monday, April 18th, WM employees and Fairport Rotarians will gather to litter pick around the High Acres Nature area and surrounding community.
