Ongoing work includes raising gas collection wells, installation of additional horizontal gas collectors, and the installation of gas vacuum lines. The renewable energy power plant engines will be shut down this Sunday for scheduled maintenance. We will have temporary generators on-site to continue the power and management of landfill gas (LFG) and the open (parnel) flare.
Q1 Surface Emissions Monitoring Event (SEM) Results:
On the dates of March 21, 2022 and March 22, 2022, GHD conducted the 2022 First Quarter (Q1) Surface Emissions Monitoring Event (SEM) at the High Acres Landfill. A total of 15 locations were flagged for follow-up and repair during the initial monitoring event. Corrective actions were immediately initiated and follow-up monitoring demonstrated that all 15 locations were successfully remedied within 1 month of the initial scan event. GHD also conducted ambient H2S monitoring at the four perimeter stations for a period of 1 week during the same time period as the initial SEM monitoring event. A full discussion of monitoring results is provided in the report issued to NYSDEC on May 5, 2022.
Organics Composting:
The organics composting operation (food waste collected from three local universities, St. John Fisher, Nazareth, and the University of Rochester) continues to be managed in the approved organics compost area. Weekly delivery of food waste continues. High Acres has partnered with Green Renewable Inc. and bagged approximately 2,000 bags of our homegrown compost to give away to community members at different events throughout the year.
Leaf Composting and Brush/Wood chipping:
The leaf compost continues to be turned every month. Brush and wood waste will be ground into wood chips for use by the town and the site.
As part of our giveback program with the Town of Perinton, every Friday during the month of May, High Acres will supply the Town of Perinton with our homegrown compost and woodchips for Perinton residents to use for different landscaping applications.
